Experience
Tony Edwards practices a variety of civil litigation, specializing in the handling of employment and labor disputes and personal injury defense. Tony also handles select criminal cases. Tony's clients include corporate and public-sector entities as well as individual litigants.
Tony has successfully handled scores of various litigation disputes, including victories on behalf of defendants in numerous employment, personal injury and police civil rights cases before Minnesota's trial and appellate courts. Tony has also prevailed on behalf of plaintiffs, winning millions of dollars in judgments in employment and civil rights actions. In addition, Tony has successfully defended the employer in dozens of public-sector employment grievance arbitration hearings.
Before joining private practice in 2005, Tony spent six years in the Air Force JAG Corps, where he litigated 25 civil and criminal trials in military and civilian courts, including a prosecution in which he obtained a life sentence against a serial child sex offender, the highest sentence ever adjudged in the Air Force for a crime of this nature. Tony also provided legal advice to military commanders on a host of complex issues including military justice, pro- and anti-government claims, medical law, and general administrative matters. In 2002, Tony was nominated for the Albert M. Kuhfeld Award for Outstanding Judge Advocate of the Year.
Tony provides pro bono assistance to refugees seeking asylum in the United States through the Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights' Refugee & Immigrant Program. In this capacity, Tony has won victories before the Bloomington Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals, successfully winning asylum for a Liberian political refugee and his family.
Tony Edwards is admitted to practice before Minnesota Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Districts of Minnesota and Western Oklahoma, the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals, and the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
